Imagine blood dripping off the walls, streaming into huge drains, and innocent animals being slashed open. Their screams echo throughout the halls of the slaughterhouse, but their screams are not alone. They are not alone because even the bloody granite records the past. Guess where this all happens? Not a horror movie, not in Japan. No, this happens in a slaughterhouse located in the United States. Now pick up that hamburger, and take a good look. One may see those poor souls of innocent animals flash before one’s eyes. If one looks, then one can see the unjust treatment these poor animals have to go through to just die. An individual might rethink meat in general if a slaughterhouse had see-through walls. A vegetarian lifestyle is not only beneficial because it can save animals, but it also saves people. A vegetarian lifestyle includes a more beneficial diet than one that consumes meat. For many reasons it is best to be vegetarian because it saves people from health problem s, and because if the country keeps using all of these nonrenewable resources, what will people have in the end? A Room of One’s Own In the novel, â€Å"A Room of One’s Own†, the author Virginia Woolf uses stories of interruptions which occur during a short period in a Mary’s life. The narrative tactic of interrupting this lady’s thought processes was used to explain a point about the nature of truth as well as to support the overarching argument that a woman needs a room of her own. In the international arena there has been a buzz that Apple doesnt have anything new up its sleeve to offer the consumers and this has provided strong competitive advantage to companies like Microsoft and Samsung. The top management professionals in the current market have stated that the last big thing that Apple did was the launch of iPhone and then eventually nothing big really happened for the company. It somehow got stagnated with its innovative ideas or is it that the company really doesnt have anything to innovate. The last few editions of iPhone have seen nothing new conspicuously and this puts a huge question mark on the innovation capability of the company. The launch of the iPhone 6 comes as another mid life iPhone face lift which is definitely not going serve the purpose of capturing the market very easily (Naranjo-Valencia et al., 2011). The looks of the phones remain the same and even here there are no high surprises that hinder the growth of its market. The live photo concept in the device could be considered as the cross between the work that Vine and Google have been doing for a little while now so nothing rings the bell even in this segment. With the increasing market competition Apple has somehow succumbed to the pressure as its iPhone 6s also had nothing new and is pretty similar to iPad mini which is definitely going to affect the market of the later. In this scenario the iPhone 7 had been planned to salvage pride and resurrect the lost faith of the customers on Apple (Davenport, 2013). The Innovation project of iPhone 7 had number of challenges that Apple will have to try to eliminate in its upcoming projects. Suggestions to overcome these problems From the above discussion it is very clear that the company hardly has a strong strategic framework for innovation and is aiming to ride on its brand image and goodwill to capture the market. Hence the first recommendation to overcome this problem would be to have a strong innovation framework which will involve discussions of areas which need innovations especially regarding Apple products (Ries, 2011). Apple is one of the most creative IT companies and hence it should use its creativity to good effect. For that having effective employees and visionary leaders within the organisation is very important. Effective research and development team and training team will have to play a huge role to prepare employees to create, innovate and implement their ideas in their respective jobs which will help to manage innovation effectively (Horibe, 2016). The disruptive technology is the latest trend and the company should capitalise more on it to develop the market. Similar to iPhone 6, 6s and 7 if the company comes up some new device it should have a proper innovation done on it which is only possible if creativity, intellectual property and financial resources are put together which will only happen if the company has effective financial planning done for the innovation framework (Goldberg, 2013). Under the fourth heading, the framework which the author has developed has been discussed. Before concluding the study, the subject under study is analysed with its gained importance and suffered limitations i s discussed. Synopsis of the Article In the article, the researcher has viewed the positive accounting research as the scientific project and claims that the same will be helpful in understanding what are the factor that have compelled employees to behave in the different way knowing its incorrect and what are the out comings of the same behavior of the employees. After these limitations that the author has recognized, the qualities that are require d from the successful research program has been detailed this again shows that the article contains the limitations. It is because the all the methods that should have been engaged have been engaged by the author in good spirit and the aim an argument that the author has flowed through the whole research have been met although the main aim have been met half but it cannot be said that due to limitations the author have changed his methodology. Jon, the main character, is in the late thirties, he is a bit overweight, but beside that he describes himself as being in good physical condition. He has a job at a magazine, which is why he is in Egypt to scuba-dive because when his stay is over he has to write about it. In general he doesnt seem pleasant about his life; he has a girlfriend, but their relationship is substandard the silences between them had multiplied, then lengthened into an empty continuum. And his job situation doesnt seem any better, because his trip to Egypt and scuba-diving is definitely something he hates Jon hated anything active or sporty. He connects scuba-diving with death, which is why he is so scared about it. He is horrified that he will drown, and therefore he is unable to stay calm under water. I think that what he is most afraid of is not the fact that he could drown, no; it is the fact that he would find himself devoured of emptiness. You could lose yourself in that, swallowed up and gone forever, a speck vanishing in the blue without sound or ripple. I think the word yellow is in the story used in the meaning coward or fool because a coward doesnt often have the guts to face his own problems. And that is here the subject suicide comes in. Suicide is often associated with being a coward, because of the fact that a coward cant handle his own problems. But Jon on the other hand believes the opposite; he thinks that committing suicide will show people that he isnt a coward or yellow as they call it. He thinks that if he commits suicide while he is scuba-diving it would perhaps look as an accident and everyone will be affected by his death; Bertie, his diving instructor, Brian, the other diving student, his boss, who forced him to go, and last but not least his girlfriend will all see that they should have listened to him and therefore it will make him significant. It seems like in yellow nature can invoke thoughts of dying. This is the same in the poem suicide note by Langston Hughes. In this the river is personified, being the one who asks the suicide to drink its water which means to die. Nature reminds us that were just changing pieces of a puzzle and that we dont have control and power over anything and especially death. If we compare Jon to everyday life, he finds himself in an extreme situation. I would personally feel uncomfortable if I was going to scuba-dive, because I dont feel like I am in control I cant breathe like if I was above water. This feeling of no control is what the text What is Reckless Op about? is about. Some people love being in a situation where they dont have any control at all. They love practicing extreme sports and pushing themselves to their limits. It is their way to feel that they are alive, because they often find themselves very close to death. However, Jon doesnt fell a thrill by being close to death. He is very insecure about it. He doesnt like to be on the brink of life it makes him feel yellow. Jons life isnt very satisfying and therefore he chooses the easy way out which is committing suicide. But the ironic thing about it is that Jons sees his act as a not yellow thing to do.

In this article, I'll give you the ingredients you need for a solid AP Biology syllabus, including all the concepts and curricular requirements of the course. I'll also provide a sample syllabus so you can get an idea of what a syllabus for this class might look like (if you're a student) or how you might structure your version of AP Biology (if you're a teacher). Finally, the end of this article is devoted to a few quick tips for teachers and students on how to successfully teach and learn the material. What Does the AP Biology Course Cover? The curriculum framework of AP Biology was revamped in 2012 and is now organized around four Big Ideas, which are overarching themes that connect the concepts you’ll learn in the course. Within each Big Idea are several â€Å"Enduring Understandings† that students are expected to develop by taking the course.These are slightly narrower themes thatcan be broken down even further into smaller parts that are aligned with specific facts about biological functions. EU 2.2: Growth, reproduction and dynamic homeostasis require that cells maintain internal environments that are different from their external environments. EU 3.4: Cells communicate by generating, transmitting and receiving chemical signals. EU 3.5: Transmission of information results in changes within and between biological systems. Labs for Big Idea 3: Cell Division: Mitosis and Meiosis Biotechnology: Bacterial Transformation Biotechnology: Restriction Enzyme Analysis of DNA Big Idea #4: Biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties EU 4.1: Interactions within biological systems lead to complex properties. EU 4.2: Competition and cooperation are important aspects of biological systems. EU 4.3: Naturally occurring diversity among and between components within biological systems affects interactions with the environment. Labs for Big Idea 4: Energy Dynamics Transpiration Fruit Fly Behavior Enzyme Activity Cooperation is always happening in biological systems! This is an approximation of what the inside of a cell looks like at any given time. The Seven Scientific Practices of AP Biology #1:The student can use representations and models to communicate scientific phenomena and solve scientific problems. #2: The student can use mathematics appropriately. #3:The student can engage in scientific questioning to extend thinking or to guide investigations within the context of the AP course. #4: The student can plan and implement data collection strategies in relation to a particular scientific question. (Note: Data can be collected from many different sources, e.g., investigations, scientific observations, the findings of others, historic reconstruction and/or archived data.) #5: The student can perform data analysis and evaluation of evidence. #6: The student can work with scientific explanations and theories. #7: The student is able to connect and relate knowledge across various scales, concepts and representations in and across domains. The Curricular Requirements of AP Biology Here's a list of the requirements that an AP Biology course must fulfill to be considered an appropriate and thorough survey of the material: The course must use a college-level biology textbook published within the last ten years. Students must connect the Enduring Understandings of each Big Idea to at least one other Big Idea (for example, connect the evolutionary concepts in Big Idea 1 to the idea presented under Big Idea 3 that genetic information is sometimes processed imperfectly, and this leads to variation). Students should be assigned projects and activities outside of labs to meet the learning objectives for each Big Idea (for example, students might do an activity where they create a model of the cell cycle and give an oral presentation on its most important aspects). The course must give students the opportunity to connect biological knowledge to major social issues and current events (for example, a project researching stem cells and their potential to impact the medical field). Labs must give students the opportunity to apply the seven science practices I listed earlier, and the course has to go through at least two labs that correspond with each Big Idea. Labs must make up at least 25% of class time. Students should be asked to demonstrate verbal, written, and visual communication skills with lab reports, summaries of scientific literature or evidence, and oral presentations. I was going to make a joke about teachers wasting class time by trying to get the projector to work for presentations, but then I realized that I don't even know if they use projectors anymore. I'm sure there's some other essential piece of classroom technology that never works by now. What Does an AP Biology Syllabus Look Like? The College Board has released some sample syllabi to help guide teachers in their instruction of the new format of the AP Biology course.The example that I’m looking at divides the class into nine different units of varying length. Teaching Tips Writing a great syllabus is the first order of business, but as you probably know, most of teaching is in the execution. If you’re a teacher trying to provide the best experience for your AP Biology students, here are a few tips you might consider using in your lessons. #1: Provide Brief Lecture Outlines Give brief outlines to students before you start your lecture so that they’ll have a clearer picture of what you’re going to cover. I say brief outlines because you don’t want to give them notes that list everything they need to know about the lecture topic.List the main points of the lecture (around 3-5 of them), and list a couple of important subtopics under each. Provide plenty of space between concepts for students to write notes. Sometimes the procedure is a little confusing or the results are different from what was expected.Make a point of walking around the room and checking in with each lab group to ensure that everyone stays on task and students have a chance to ask questions.This can also prevent students from doing the lab incorrectly and wasting time - you’ll catch mistakes early! #4: Model Your Tests After the Real AP Test My AP Biology teacher gave us tests throughout the year whose questions were very similar to real AP test questions. These tests were super challenging (I don’t think I ever got a solid A on any of them), but I was very well-prepared for the AP test.Nothing on the exam was more difficult than the questions I had encountered on in-class tests, so I felt pretty confident. Tips for Students Here are a few additional tips directed towards students who want to do well in AP Biology. #1: Do the Readings on Time There’s a lot to cover in this class, so it’s critical that you keep up with the readings in your textbook.If you fall behind, it will be hard to catch up.There also may be important things that your textbook covers that your teacher won’t mention in lectures.Plus, you’ll be able to participate in class discussions and avoid failing any pop quizzes! #2: Take Notes During Lectures Don’t zone out when your teacher is talking!I know it can be difficult, but taking effective notes is a great skill to have for college and beyond.Your notes will also help you study for in-class tests and, eventually, the AP test. It’s easier to study your own notes because they’ll be written in a way that you understand. #3: Ask Questions Don’t be afraid to speak up in class discussions and engage with the lecture topics.If you feel like you don’t understand a concept, ask your teacher about it. Believe me, it's better than finding yourself totally lost later! Also, if you have any doubts about lab procedures or how you should write your lab reports, consult with your teacher before going forward. Conclusion AP Biology covers a huge amount of information, so writing a syllabus that organizes everything effectively is super important. The four main Big Ideas encompass many smaller themes, each of which covers a variety of complex concepts. The College Board also requires classes to introduce students to seven scientific practices and fulfill a litany of other curricular requirements.
